Government Ayurvedic Medical College

Government Ayurvedic Medical College Bangalore, is a reputed institution working for the academics, research, and clinical practice of Ayurvedic medicine. It was established in 1967.The institute is located in the Dhavantari Road in the Majestic area of Bangalore, this college serves as an important center for traditional Indian Medical sciences, with the age-old Ayurvedic knowledge combining with the modern academic studies. 

The GAMC Vision is to reach the goal of sustainable progress as a centre of global excellence in Ayurveda education, research, and healthcare delivery. 

The GAMC Mission is to highlight the adoption of standard educational methodologies to help the students understand and apply the Ayurvedic principles by preceding it to the contemporary health challenge. The institute also motivates the students in investigative research into Ayurvedic science, developing skills, and proof-based practice among its students.

The college has provided a high standard of education and learning environment, fostering the personal and professional growth of the students and are motivated to think individually and go forward with clinical acumen. Alumni of the institute have gone above and beyond to play a significant role in various health sectors, reflecting the quality of education and mentorship offered at GAMC. 

The institute has offered UG and PG level of education all over the Ayurvedic institute; they have been supported by the regular seminars, guest lectures, and research-oriented activities to update and make the students more knowledgeable. The counselling process is conducted by the KEA or applicable counselling bodies. The institute has 61+ teaching staff and 51 non-teaching staff. And for UG 60 seats and for PG 44 seats.

Furthermore,the institute is mainly recognised by the  National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), the statutory body under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. The institute is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru, Karnataka. 

• Compared to the private colleges, government colleges provide the education in affordable fees, so that the students can get wider in number.

• The government colleges that are attached with the hospitals often have high daily inflow of patients so that the students can have a conversation with the patients and get hands-on experience.

• Many of the government colleges hire highly boasted talented and experienced faculty members, including the Ph.D. holders and post-graduate scholars, who are ready to dedicate themselves in teaching and mentoring the students.

• Many established BAMS Colleges in Bangalore have well-equipped, functional teaching hospitals with a bed count, for example in GAMC has 225 beds and continuous patient flow, which plays an important role in the practical clinical training.

• Eligible candidates often receive scholarships from the state government, and the institute benefits from the central and state government and it takes part in the National Ayush Mission (NAM) to upgrade the infrastructure.

• A critical challenge for the students is a less number of qualified teaching staff and medical officers, which can affect the education and the patient care.

• Many state and municipal institutions have gone through many issues on the basic infrastructural facilities, such as proper laboratories, hygienic conditions, and sufficient equipment, and some of the buildings are very old and poorly maintained.

• There must be development in the preparation of medicine and treatment protocols. In the high-impact journals the research format is often limited, and there is a low level ecosystem for science and research is generally lacking, which is moving to trust deficit in evidence based quality.

• Sometimes the curriculum struggles to maintain the traditional Ayurveda and Modern Medicine, and because of these the students may face inadequate clinical exposure in their early years of study.

• There are even policy challenges on the integration of Ayurveda with modern medicine. In addition, comparing to the modern medicine practitioners there is less number of employment opportunities and low package of  salary for the graduates, that can harm the perception of the career.

• The institution often faces bureaucratic inefficiencies, which means irregular supply of medicine, slow recruitment processes, and facing difficulty in adhering to stringent regulatory norms.
