Alvas Ayurveda Medical College, Moodbidri

Alvas Ayurveda Medical College was founded by Dr. M. Mohan Alva, was established in 1996. His dream was to promote a quality of professional education in the small town Moodbidri. The college is managed by Alva’s Education Foundation. The 18 years of academic journey is a saga and it is offering standard medical education in the Indian system of medicine that is attracting the students from various parts of India and Abroad.

In the beginning of the BAMS (4.5 Years and 1 year internship) the seat intake was 60, and now for its successive results the seat intake for the program has increased to 100. After serving for 10 years the curriculum added PG Course in 2 disciplines namely Dravyaguna Vijnana and Shalya Tantra from 2006. There after 2010-11, 5 more specialities were added. The PG program seat undertaken is 185 for 15 specialties.

The campus size is about 41 acres of land. The college AAMC is private, the campus is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). The college is approved by the Central Council of Indian Medicine. The faculty count of the AAMC College is 727, the college is ranked in 92 position, and it has got “B” grade.

The AAMC college has provided various broad facilities to the students in the studies purpose: Spacious Lecture Halls, Laboratories, Teaching Hospital and Clinical Training, Herbal Garden, Library & Learning Resources, Research and Academic Enrichment, and Students support facilities.

• Massive Clinical Exposure : The AAMC College has an attached hospital of 250 beds (in plan to expand) and a sister concern 200 beds, the hospital has high patient flow which helps the students to get practical learning.

• Comprehensive infrastructure : The college has a 50 acres of herbal garden, a GMP Certified pharmacy, specialised and well - equipped labs, and a library with over 15,000 books. 

• Academics excellence and research : It offers 15 PG specialisations. The college is identified for producing university rank holders and has a dedicated research center (ARC).

• Vibrant Cultural Environment : It is known to host major cultural events Alva's Virasat and Nudisiri, and offers a bright campus life.

• Strict Campus Rules : The college follows strict rules, involving using mobile phones, limited outing, and strict separation of genders.

• High Students Density : The college takes in a large number of students, and it can become a crowd in classrooms as well as hostel mess, which some of the students find difficult.

• Limited Stipend/Placements : It has been reported that the stipends during the mandatory internship can be low or may not exist, and a very little campus selection for the BAMS Program. 

• Hostel Conditions : While the campus is safe, but some of the reviews say that the hostel facilities are not so good, it allows the students to share the rooms for 4 in each, while the boys hostels are located far 6 km from the main campus. 

• Monotonous Routine : The academic schedule is very rigorous, which some of the students can face difficulty seeking a more relaxed college experience.
