5. Strengths/Challenges of SSAM Hadapsar Pune:

Strengths-

  • The established Ayurvedic medical institution Sumatibhai Shah Ayurved Mahavidyalaya has been operating since 1957 to establish itself as a reliable Ayurvedic medical institution in Maharashtra. The institution demonstrates its long-term existence through its unbroken dedication to traditional Ayurvedic knowledge.

  • The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), which used to be called CCIM, has granted recognition to the college while it maintains its educational partnership with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) in Nashik. The college programs meet national educational standards and regulatory requirements through its affiliation with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik and recognition by NCISM which used to be CCIM.

  • The BAMS program at Sumatibhai Shah Ayurved Mahavidyalaya provides students with a complete education which combines traditional Ayurvedic teachings with contemporary clinical skills. Students develop theoretical understanding together with practical diagnostic abilities.

  • The Ayurvedic hospital which operates alongside the institution provides students with clinical experiences through which they can witness and take part in patient treatment, see Panchakarma sessions and learn about herbal medicine procedures. The hands-on training develops clinical competence together with confidence.

  • The college conducts Ayurvedic health camps and community service activities which bring health services to both rural areas and urban environments. The initiatives enable students to learn about public health requirements and traditional methods of preventive healthcare and health promotion methods.

Challenges-

  • The Sumatibhai Shah Ayurved Mahavidyalaya maintains its traditional facilities yet needs modern updates to match current clinical technologies and research equipment.

  • Ayurvedic colleges typically receive lower overall national visibility compared with allopathic (MBBS/BAMS-PG) institutions. The institutional recognition process suffers because students from outside traditional medicine circles lack knowledge about the institution.

  • The integration of classical Ayurvedic principles with contemporary scientific research methods remains an ongoing challenge which requires funding for research laboratories and interdisciplinary study programs and evidence-based publication activities.

  • The growing demand for Ayurvedic practitioners as a healthcare profession has resulted in higher competition for BAMS seats which forces students to study intensively for national entrance tests such as NEET-UG.

6. Conclusion:

The Ayurvedic institution Sumatibhai Shah Ayurved Mahavidyalaya in Pune operates as a traditional healthcare institute which offers structured academic programs and clinical training and research activities to preserve Indian medical heritage. The college achieves national educational standards through its National Commission for Indian System of Medicine recognition and its Maharashtra University of Health Sciences affiliation.
