SDM Institute of Ayurveda & Hospital

SDM Institute of Ayurveda & Hospital is located in Anchepalya, near Bangalore- Mysore Highway, Bengaluru, is a reputed Ayurvedic Medical Institution was established in 2010, with the visionary of providing education in Ayurvedic with the modern medical standards. It was founded by Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, and managed by the Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational Society, a well-known educational and social service organization. 

The institution is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). The institute spans 8 acres of land, and it is recognised by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and it is approved by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM). It ranks ‘A’ grade in all India level among the Ayurveda institutions, nationally the college is ranked in 9th position. 

The institution has provided education to the Undergraduates and Postgraduates level of students. It comprises 100 seats for the BAMS-UG, and 36 for the MD/MS (PG Ayurveda). With various facilities for academics and for extra curricular activities . The college has provided experienced faculty and teaching hospitals for the students and to provide hands-on experience to the students. The college has 57 teaching faculty and 51 non-teaching faculty.

The SDM institute has provided modern academic blocks, laboratory, museums, central library, hostels for students and other significant facilities.

The Mission of the SDM Institute of Ayurveda & Hospital is to provide quality Ayurvedic education rooted in classical principles with the modern scientific knowledge and clinical practices. The institution focuses on developing the skills and ethics of ayurvedic physicians by structuring a framework, competent faculty guidance, and hands-on-practical training. 

• The hospital has a bed-capacity of 250 with active in and out patient departments, including the specific units for panchakarma,Kayachikitsa, and Shalya Tantra (Surgery).

• While the college is rooted in Ayurveda, the hospital utilises modern diagnostics tools like: X-ray, E.C.G, USG, and Laboratory investigations, ensuring proper diagnosis and evidence-based practice. 

• The institution has provided highly qualified doctors and specialists. The treatment given is multidisciplinary, combining the Ayurveda with yoga and physiotherapy.

• The institution has provided on campus separate hostels for male and female, with CCTV surveillance, 24/7 security, and biometric access. The environment is declared as clean and well-maintained.

• The concerns are getting raised on the behaviour of the canteen staff and the quality/sufficiency food they provide.

• The college is getting popular and reputed, due to this case it contains high patient flow, which can lead to longer waiting times.

• Despite being a highly rated hospital, there are isolated reports of inconsistency in treating complex cases, by which a reviewer mentions a failure in addressing a specific condition.
