It was founded by Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, and managed by the Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational Society, a well-known educational and social service organization.

The institution is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). The institute spans 8 acres of land, and it is recognised by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and it is approved by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM). It ranks ‘A’ grade in all India level among the Ayurveda institutions, nationally the college is ranked in 9th position.

The institution has provided education to the Undergraduates and Postgraduates level of students. It comprises 100 seats for the BAMS-UG, and 36 for the MD/MS (PG Ayurveda).
