RA Podar Ayurveda Medical College

Podar Ayurved Institute also has RA Podar Medical College and a M.A.Podar Ayurvedic hospital. The institute was founded with an agreement between  the donors Podar and then to the government of Bombay in1941 and it is one of the top BAMS Colleges In Maharashtra. In the last 60 years the college has reached the state where the institute is identified as the best institute for Ayurved in India. It is still processing on the poor persons in the community and with forward it is spreading the holy knowledge of Ayurved throughout the world. The past is outstanding and the future is bright.

The institute gave education to the graduate students under the head of D.A.S.F. in 1942. With the permission of C.C.I.M’.s in 1971 the B.S.A.M course was started while with this the college got affiliation from the ‘University of Bombay’. The Present BAMS course was started in the year 1973 under the Bombay University. Per year 60 students are allotted the seat and get a chance to study the ‘Ayurved-the-science of life’ in the reputed college. 

In 1983 the college declared the MD/MS (Post graduate) Program successfully. Every year 20-25 students get the seats and learn their postgraduate course in various subjects like: Kayachikitsa, Shalya, Shalakya in this oldest institution. It has given approval for the Ph.D program in the field of Ayurved.

The institute is located in Pune, in the Worli area with a span of 6 acres. The peaceful greenery surrounds the old English styled building of the college. The campus has a college building, library, hospital building, research wing with hostel accommodation for the students as well as for the hospital staff. A beautiful temple of Lord Dhanvantari enhances the holiness of the entire campus.

Herbal garden is located in an area of almost 6000 sqft. The garden is enriched with several herbs, which are practically used for the hospital patients. This garden not only has herbs, it also has different kinds of herbs, kinds of trees are placed with their names and basic properties so that laymen can understand the significance of medicinal use of herbs. The main building of Podar, which is surrounded with the evergreen trees, herbs, and shrubs, makes the institute ‘Green Island’ in the heart of Mumbai city. 

The Podar institute is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS). For its excellence in education it has received A+ grade, and it is recognised by the National Commission for Indian Systems of Medicine (NCISM). The college ranks 52 in IIRF 2023.

• The institute was established in 1941, it is a reputed and identified institution in Ayurvedic education and research, it is considered as one of the best colleges for its excellence in education in Maharashtra and in India. And it upholds A+ NAAC grade.

• Being a state government-run college, it enjoys patronage and has offered affordable fees structure.

• The institute has an affiliated MA Podar Ayurvedic Hospital is a major strength, accommodating a large number of outpatient Department (OPD) and Inpatient Department (IPD) with an 200 bed capacity, that is almost always full. This helps the students hands-on experience.

• The college has highly qualified and experienced, knowledgeable staff members across 12 departments, who are helping and guiding the students.

• It has offered wide facilities like: well-equipped library, with manuscripts, rare books, and national/international periodicals, along with these labs and herbal garden.

• The college is affiliated with the MUHS, and it has offered BAMS, MD/MS courses.

• The institute is located in Worli, and it provides good connectivity and has access to urban amenities.

• According to some students' reviews, the old infrastructure needs to be noted. The college building has a poor outlook, many classes having short space and the expectation falling shorts.

• The students are dissatisfied with the hostel facilities, and the food provided in the canteen has rated average.

• Some of the students report that internal politics within the teacher and management, which can harm the students experience.

• The college has provided limited sports games like: volleyball, badminton, and cricket.
