5. Strengths/Challenges:

Strengths-

  • The Ashtang Ayurved Mahavidyalaya & Hospital which opened its doors in 1936 stands as one of India's most ancient and prestigious institutions that provides Ayurvedic medical training. The institution has maintained its traditional practices throughout its lengthy existence to provide ongoing support for Ayurvedic medicine.

  • The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) which was known as CCIM prior to this time period, has officially recognized the institute, which has established its educational partnership with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) in Nashik to fulfill both national educational requirements and regulatory standards.

  • The college provides well-organized BAMS and MD/MS (Ayurveda) academic programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The students not only get knowledge on ancient Ayurvedic theories by studying traditional texts, but also receive hands-on clinical experience in diagnostics and treating patients, which helps them build successful professional careers as qualified ayurveda doctors in the field of healthcare.

  • The Ayurvedic hospital which students can access provides them with extensive clinical experience through various methods, such as studying Panchakarma therapies and herbal formulation techniques and implementing treatments which rely on traditional medical texts, which helps them build essential diagnostic and patient-care abilities.

  • The hospital conducts outreach programs to provide low-cost Ayurvedic treatment to both urban and rural residents while allowing students to engage in community health initiatives through their outreach work.

  • The college facility includes fully equipped classrooms and laboratories, and an Ayurvedic herbal garden, and a library that holds both ancient texts and modern academic resources to assist students in their educational and research activities.

Challenges-

  • The existing campus facilities and laboratories of the traditional institution need upgrades to achieve modern standards of clinical research and technological development.

  • Ayurvedic colleges have lower visibility in medical education rankings which results from their comparison to allopathic institutions that offer MBBS and MD programs, thereby affecting the broader recognition.

  • The educational system faces difficulties in developing new curricula and research materials that successfully combine traditional Ayurvedic teachings with contemporary scientific research techniques.

  • The growing demand for Ayurveda education creates more competition for BAMS and MD/MS programs which forces students to study intensively for their entrance examinations.

6. Conclusion:

The foundation of Ashtang Ayurved Mahavidyalaya and Hospital as a historical educational institution began in 1936 to maintain authentic Ayurvedic educational programs. The college established academic frameworks and clinical standards which received National Commission for Indian System of Medicine recognition and Maharashtra University of Health Sciences affiliation. The BAMS and MD/MS programs of the institution combine traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with practical hospital training to provide students with comprehensive theoretical understanding and real-world skills. The institution develops skilled Ayurvedic practitioners through essential facilities, research programs and community outreach activities who dedicate themselves to ethical practice and complete healthcare delivery.
