NIE Institute of Technology

The NIE Institute of Technology, which is a component of National Institute of Engineering, Mysore was established in the year 2008 and it is a top technical institution located in the cultural capital of Karnataka, that is Mysore. It was founded by the well-known prestigious group of institutions which is the NIE, which has a legacy dating back till 1946. It is also called North Campus, which is specifically designed to expand the footprint of engineering education beyond the historic main campus. The campus spreads across a vast 25 acre landscape in the Cooragalli industrial area. The institute provides a tranquil yet technologically advanced environment for academics.

The NIE Institute of Technology is approved by AICTE, New Delhi, and it is a constituent of National Institute of Engineering society. The institution is affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi. NIE Institute of Technology has carved a niche for itself by maintaining a very high standard of academic excellence in the fields of information science, computer engineering, etc. The institution has modern laboratory facilities with a curriculum that is corresponding to the industry needs. The college also ensures that the graduates from this college are well prepared to serve for the betterment of technology.

The institution is located strategically near the major industries like VEML which provides their students unique opportunities and industrial visits, internships and hands-on learning experiences making it a hub for technical education in Mysore.

• The college has a powerful placement index and it shares a centralized placement cell with the main NIE campus. In 2025, the IAEA's highest package reached around 50 lakhs per annum from recruiters like Cisco, Western Digital, and HPE.

• Being a newer campus, which was established in 2008, the buildings are built with modern equipment and modern engineering requirements of a technical institute and are designed according to the current educational standards. 

• Being located in the heart of Utagal industrial area provides a direct access and a close proximity to the students to avail industrial visits, industrial networking, and industrial workshops which is more beneficial and provides some more industrial exposure to the students of the institute.

• The college holds a strong base of alumni network who have flourished in various fields of engineering, in multi-national companies, which can be beneficial for fresh graduates, for reference, and in future career planning.  

• The campus is approximately 10 to 12 kilometers away from the Mysore City Center, making it a commute for day scholars and even hostels for traveling to the city for any needs. Although all the basic needs and all the vendors and all the shops are present in a close proximity to the campus, still the city remains a little far. 

• Being a co-institute of National Institute of Engineering. Students have a brand perception that the National Institute of Engineering campus is still a well chosen institute because of its 75 year old heritage. So this makes the people think there is a gap in their quality for the NIE Institute of Technology, or the north campus and the main campus which is the National Institute of Engineering. 

• Unequal placement of students from different branches is still a major challenge of every engineering institute. There is a high demand for computer science and AI engineers, and with lesser demand for the engineers qualified in core branches.
