Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS Karwar) was established in 2016. The institution was started by the government of Karnataka and handled by the state government’s Department of Health and Family Welfare. The institution existed to bring changes in the healthcare system and medical field in the district of Uttara Kannada. The KIMS Karwar is showcasing best effort in addressing the needs of the medical field in the region. The campus has been affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science and it follows the integrated curriculum which is structured to promote skilled and compassionate healthcare professionals.

MBBS - Seat Intake : 150

Course : 5 years and 6 months

Internship : Mandatory 1 year rotary residential internship.

Eligibility Criteria and Admission Process :

The UG courses that are undertaken by the KIMS Karwar. The eligible candidates will be guided based on their merits obtained in their respective entrance exam. The merit-based seat allotment for MBBS Program, the counselling process will be conducted by the KEA-Karnataka Examination Authority. Eligibility Criteria:

MBBS 

• The candidates belonging to general category and joining the MBBS Program must have qualified in the core subjects :Physics, Chemistry, Biology with English Language of  50% aggregate.

• For the reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC) must have qualified with an aggregate of 40% in the above mentioned subjects.

• The candidates must be 17 years old or should have crossed 17 years before the 31st December.

Admission Process 

To join the MBBS Program, follow the below mentioned admission process of KIMS, Karwar : 

MBBS

• The candidates need to clear the NEET-UG entrance exam conducted by the NTA and get qualified in it.

• Once the candidates are qualified, they get registered in the KEA official portal for counselling.

• Seat allotment process will be based on the candidates score in NEET UG, reservation category, and quota (Government / Private / NRI).

• During the choice selection, keep your first preference on KIMS, Karwar and choose the MBBS course.

• Report to the college on a prescribed date, submit your original documents, and the tuition fees.

Strength and Challenges 

Strength 

• Infrastructure & Amenities : The KIMS Karwar Campus provides advanced laboratories, a well - organised central library, and separate hostels for male and female students with well - maintenance. 

• Faculty Members : The curriculum is identified by the supportive pillar faculty members when compared to other government campuses. 

• Practical Training : The affiliated college is attached to Government District Teaching Hospitals, the applicants will get a chance to gain hands-based-experience with a high volume of patients.  

• Accreditations : The campus has been identified by the National Medical Commission (NMC) making sure that they reach national standards of education. 

• Availability : The associated teaching hospital has provided wheelchairs for the patient in the entrance and parking area. 

Challenges 

• Location : Seen that the campus is located in the coastal town of Karwar, and it provides limited amenities for the metropolitan when compared to hubs like Bangalore or hubli. 

• Newly Established : The KIMS Karwar was formed in 2016 which is a very young institution compared to many of the government young institutions, and the PG course is still in the developing area. 

• Limited curricular activities / Facilities : The Karwar being a small town, the surrounding and limited aspects recreational areas when compacting city when compared to city basis  colleges. 

• Growth in Infrastructure : While colleges offer discipline amenities, the process on campus may not have the longest establishment history like older medical schools.
