Armed Forces Medical College is a premier medical institution located in Pune, India. AFMC has the distinction of being the first medical college set up by the Armed Forces in any of the countries in Asia. It was established on May 01, 1948. The institute is unique in that it combines medical education and training in a specific manner for the healthcare needs of the Armed Force. It is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Science (MUHS), and it has been accredited from NAAC since 2003 with a high grade of ‘A+’. It has got an award for cumulative grade point of Average 3.45 out of 4 with an ‘A+’ Grade.
Armed Forces Medical College is one the Top MBBS Colleges In Maharashtra, which is located near Ramtekri in eastern pune, with a friendly environment and a stretching out campus of 119 acres. The campus has well maintained gardens, the institute campus is like a home to the interesting mix of heritage buildings with ultramodern facilities. The institute has provided all the necessary amenities, apart from the lecture halls, laboratories, demonstration rooms, auditorium, and museum. For the students all the amenities are provided with fully furnished, as well faculty and staff are provided with accommodation on campus.
It has offered programs for the candidates such as Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Nursing, Super speciality, and Paramedical. Patient care forms an important role of the training curriculum and the affiliated hospitals use the expertise available in the AFMC. The institute forms a backbone of highly qualified professionals and medical care being provided for the Armed Forces.
The campus has provided a wide range of facilities such as Swimming Pool, Cinema Theatre, General Stores, Cafeteria, Canteen, Shopping Centre, Creche and Nursery School, place offered for religious worship, sports facilities for both the indoor and outdoor games. The college is famed for its Graduate wing, which was inaugurated on 04 Aug 1962, by Shri V K Krishna Menon, and then by the Defence Minister of India. Each and every department has dedicated staff members, round the year a well planned lectures, demonstration and clinics practicals are conducted.
The institute has offered affiliated teaching hospitals for the students in the clinical departments. It includes Command Hospital (Southern Command), Army Institute of Cardio- Thoracic Science (AICTS), Military Hospital Kirkee, Artificial Limb Centres and Cantonment General Hospital,Pune. When the first batch passed out from AFMC it had produced more than 7000 doctors since 1966.
In 1964 the college of Nursing was established, with an annual intake of 40 candidates who are selected through an All India Competitive Examination, the institute has produced more than 1500 nursing officers for the Military NURSING Service.Furthermore, at present, the institute is conducting 59 training courses. More than 550 PG trainees are engaged in the research and academic activities of the highest standard, and in the stewardship of around 300 highly qualified and accomplished faculty members of AFMC, and affiliated teaching hospitals.
